Upper kits are required for handlebar modifications; either with an upper brake line adapter, or for '11–'17 Softails, the optional ABS Lower Brake Line Kit including the adapter. Adapter for Softail models to connect the upper ABS controller brake line ('11 - '17) or the lower line ('18+) to the master cylinder When replacing the original lower brake line assembly on '18+ dual disc Softails, no adapter is needed. With AN-3 fittings, the upper line connects directly to the Magnum lower assembly Dual disc Touring models require three kits: one upper, one lower, and one intermediate Trike models use two kits: one upper and one intermediate. No lower kit available. A Designer middle and upper line is required for all ABS-equipped Touring and Trike models. The middle line connects to the upper line in the fairing or headlight nacelle and provides the link between the master cylinder and the ABS module. Lower kit optional. For non-original applications, measure the upper brake line length and banjo angle to ensure compatibility. Harley-Davidson motorcycles equipped with ABS require specific ABS brake line kits. Using other kits may compromise ABS operation. Suitable Magnum Shielding kits are marked "ABS" directly on the line. Upper line length for Softail, Dyna and '14+ Sportster is determined using the original brake line as a reference. Fold back the rubber sheath and measure from the point where the flexible line enters the crimped ferrule. Follow the routing to the master cylinder. '18+ Softail – Replacing the upper line when reusing the original lower brake line (adapter required). Lengths are determined using the original master cylinder line as a reference. Measure from the lower line manifold where the upper line attaches to the master cylinder. Subtract 1.5” for the adapter and round up to determine the upper line length. Replacing both upper and lower lines for '18+ Single Disc Softail requires an adapter (3 kits). No adapter is needed when replacing both brake lines on '18+ Dual Disc Softail (2 kits). The upper line connects directly to the Magnum Designer lower line. Follow the instruction above without subtracting 1.5” for the adapter. The measured length rounded up will be correct. Upper line length for Touring and Trike models is measured using the 49" middle line as a reference to determine the additional length needed from the ABS controller to the master cylinder. This measurement will be your upper line length.
